"Filipino Monkey" is a nickname given to a particular radio prankster (and his imitators) in maritime radio transmissions in the Persian Gulf as well as in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The Filipino Monkey has created problems for merchant shipping and naval operations for over two decades.[1]. It is likely that this title has come about due to a suspicion that such pranksters originate from the Philippines.

we have the "N" word, white trash, eurotrash, china man, etc... why not filipino monkey? i dont see the big deal since everyone calls everyone names anyway.

  3. Here is the thing, if everyone calls everyone a trash, would it be right for you to follow suit? I dont think so. Just because everyone is doing it, doesnt make it right - Philosophy 101 dude.

And btw, the examples you gave are actual animals NOT referring to people! If you are comfortable with the slur then so be it, but I am not, it is completely derogatory and crass.

  4. i too am uncomfortable with racial slurs, but i think "The Filipino Monkey"is just a handle( a nick or codename) it just evolved to become a tag to hecklers on that particular channel, its a bitch when we are slurred and i had a very close encounter at SG when someone, actually my superior-to-be when he slurred our maria claras. as i have said before "Do you know how it feels like when you hear two Americans chatting freely in some park in San Francisco or New York and you happen to hear them say “look at those PI-fools, they’re in the news again, how could they expect respect when they can’t even tell if they’re leader is fake” (from: http://donsalcedo.multiply.com/journal/item/10/EAT_SHIT_REACTION ) the solution lies with us. we can surely go head to head with anyone discriminating us like what we did in that desperate housewives episode. but then that is but a temporary solution. we should know by now that discrimination starts at the grass roots this meaning, well, you know na malamang xD

  5. I agree with what you said and slurs have no excuse whether or not it is justified or not. Its just not cool. I could mouth all the slurs in the world, oh hell, Ive got plenty of them but I rather not because it is not right, it is not appropriate and it is not civilized.
