MANILA, Philippines —For kicking an 8-year-old girl while drunk, a Korean man ended up in jail in Ermita, Manila on Monday night, police reports said.
The report from the Manila Police District Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk said the victim suffered bruises on her rear end after Kim Soy Kyu, 40, a tourist staying at the Casablanca Hotel in Ermita, kicked her several times.
Before that, the victim, her mother and three other relatives were eating at the Twin’s Burger Bar and Restaurant at the corner of Adriatico and Salas Streets when Kim, who was drinking with his friends at a nearby table, approached them.
Kim then grabbed the girl’s fork and poked the food on her plate with it.
When the victim complained, the Korean reportedly went into a rage. He kicked the girl several times while shouting, prompting the victim’s mother to seek assistance from a nearby police station.
When asked about the incident, Kim denied he kicked the child although he admitted that he did poke the girl’s food with a fork.
The Korean remains in detention pending the filing of child abuse charges against him.
